Geospatial technology has been identified as one of the top ten high-growth career fields in the United States by the U.S Department of Labor. There are many exciting and well-paying careers that await those who graduate with the technical expertise needed to operate these complex systems. Training our youth to fill these positions is a primary goal of the GIS program. Through high school curriculum development projects, after-school GIS program development, teacher training, and our unique computer mapping technology summer camp, Washington College is taking a leading role in developing the educational content needed to train our nation’s youth to fill these careers. Efforts are geared at developing material that can be taught not only via traditional methods, but also through advanced distance learning technologies such as Adobe Connect or Moodle. We also offer adult continuing education workshops.
