Stewart Bruce is the GIS Program Coordinator at Washington College. In addition to teaching he also manages numerous funded projects spanning the gamut from crime mapping to youth technology training in GIS. Previously he worked as Senior Extension Associate at Penn State University in the Cooperative Extension Geospatial Technology Program. Prior to working at Penn State, he established a regional GIS Department at Mifflin County, PA. Stewart has a Masters in Science in Geography from Penn State University. Read more . . .

Andrew Wright is a Crime Mapping Analyst at Washington College’s Crime Mapping and Analysis Program (CMAP). While a part of CMAP Andrew has worked closely in the field with many law enforcement and criminal justice agencies in Maryland providing individual support, instruction and outreach. In addition to working with law enforcement agencies, Andrew administers the Maryland Offender Management System (MOMS) which allows law enforcement to search multiple offender databases by address or geographical boundaries such as county, city, or police beat.

Samantha is a full time staff member funded through the Maryland’s BRAC grant as a GIS Educator in both youth technology and professional development courses. She oversees the Swanstrom Idaho Ranch Mapping project and plays a large part in editing the GIS curriculum. As a recent graduate of Washington College, with a B.A. in Environmental Studies, Samantha has brought an environmental perspective to the GIS program working on past projects such as mapping the Sassafras River Watershed and helping the Chestertown Greening Initiative with their Street Tree Survey.

Carol comes to the GIS program with 33 years of business experience, 7 years in banking and 26 years as a private business owner. She has a B.A, in Business Management from Washington College and is currently working part time with the GIS Program. Part of Carol’s daily routine includes scheduling student interns, updating grant budgets and helping with program organization.

Emily is a full time GIS analyst, recently graduated from Washington College with a double major in English and Environmental Studies. She now divides her time equally between gang-related crime analysis and health mapping. In partnership with the Maryland Community Health Resources Commission, she works with federally qualified health centers and other organizations reaching out to low-income and high-risk populations across the state.

Erica Rhoades is a GIS Project Manager at Washington College. She has over eight years of experience in GIS and ESRI software products, and is a certified GIS Professional through the GIS Certification Institute. Erica earned her Bachelor of Science in Geography from Salisbury University and her Master of Science in Geography from University of Delaware. Erica has worked on projects related to image processing and manipulation, environmental studies, urban planning, and 3D scanning and visualization.
Dr. John Ryan

John is a retired public health physician with a particular interest in the geospatial distribution of diseases and conditions associated with the environment. He is currently looking at Lyme disease in Kent County.

Chuck Benton is the education research associate at Washington College. He also currently teaches at Dover Area High School in Dover, PA. He is teaching Geographic Information System I, II, III and IV along with Drafting I, II, Architectural Drawing and Design Engineering (honor course). He is also currently, the chairman of the Practical Arts Department at Dover, which consists of the following areas: Family Consumer Science, Vocational Agriculture, and Technology Education. He is also Dover’s Coordinator of GIS and GIS interns. Chuck has applied the PA standards to the current GIS I & II courses on the TIU-GetIT curriculum website, and has promoted the TIU-GetIT curriculum at several different conferences and seminars.
