Brendan Blee is a senior at Washington College, pursuing a major in environmental studies. He found that using GIS is not only fun but may help him in his future career. He is currently working on GIS curriculum development for high school students. Brendan is both a member of the Japanese Club and Outdoor Adventure Club.

Nichole Bryant is a senior majoring in business management. She is also a Resident Area Director, a Career Ambassador, and Class Treasurer of the senior class. She is working on further developing the introductory course curriculum for high schools.

Samantha is an environmental studies major and currently a senior at Washington College. She is the President of the Student Environmental Alliance and a student member of the Presidential Climate Action Committee. This is her second semester interning in the GIS lab. She is working on mapping the tree canopy cover for the Chestertown Greening Initiative. She hopes to continue to expand this project by using a program called City Green to determine carbon sequestration and water run off. She would encourage everyone to take a GIS class because it is a useful skill for almost any field.

Debby Cooper is a history major and sociology minor at Washington College. She is currently working on the Chestertown Historical Geography Project. She is also the President and forwards captain of WC Women’s Rugby.


Sam Evans Sam Evans '09

Sam Evans is a senior, double majoring in computer science and mathematics. He is working as a Crime Mapping Associate on the grant received from the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention. His other projects include 3D visualization, web mapping, and whatever else gets sent his way.

Jessica Smith is a biology and psychology major. She is currently the treasurer for Psi Chi, a member of BBB, and the head student dispatcher at Public Safety. This is her first year in the GIS program. She is working as a crime mapping intern for the Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention (GOCCP) Eastern Shore Regional Project.

Kisato Takenaka is currently a senior at Washington College, majoring in environmental studies with a minor in art. She comes from a small town, Tsubata, in Ishikawa Prefecture in Japan. She likes to be outdoors, enjoying fishing, boating, kayaking, biking, etc. As a GIS intern, she makes maps for Worton Water and Waste management. She currently holds the position of secretary in the Japanese Club.

Kathy is a junior environmental studies major. She is from Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, a suburb outside of Philadelphia. At WC she is a member of the swim team and is a S.A.M. She is also a member of Alpha Omicron Pi. She is working on updating and enhancing the Kent County Tourism maps.

Andrew Hale Andrew Hale '10

Andrew is currently a junior at Washington College, where he is working towards a computer science major and two minors in math and information sciences. He is currently working on a project involving 3D visualization and implementing it in programs such as Google Sketchup and ArcScene. In addition to the GIS lab, he works for the Office of Information Technologies at the HelpDesk.

Doug is a junior, with a major in computer science and minors in mathematics and information science. He has been working for the GIS lab since early September. Doug has worked on projects in 3D rendering in Sketch-Up, Google Earth, and Arc Scene. Some of Doug's current projects include learning and using the GeoExpress Software, writing lessons for the Intermediate GIS classes, and whatever project come his way. In addition to the GIS lab, he works for the Office of Information Technologies at the HelpDesk and at the Washington College Department of Public Safety as a dispatcher.

Kate Ballard is a freshman and is planning on majoring in math. She hopes to eventually become a statistician for the government.

Matt is embarking on his first interest in Geospatial Technology. He is working on making 3D Models for the St. Michaels Visualization & Analysis Project which is helping a small town to visualize the effects of adding a 300 home housing development. He plans on taking this experience to his future college career.

Josh Biringer is a freshman at Washington College. He plans on majoring in business and minoring in music, and plans on pursing graduate school. He is currently finishing his training in GIS and is getting involved in geospatial data editing projects. He is also involved with the Student Events Board and the Musician's Union.

Caitlin is a freshman psychology major who plans on attending medical school at the University of Maryland, College Park. She is a member of the Equestrian Club and Cleopatra sisters. She also works on campus as a calculus note taker. In the GIS lab her main focus is on curriculum development and geographic polygon mapping.

Sarah is a freshman at Washington College who comes to us all the way from Boston, Mass. She is currently an international studies major, but that will probably change over the next four years. She hopes to spend a lot of time studying abroad because she loves traveling (hence the major). For GIS, she is currently mapping all of the school in Maryland and categorizing the Fortune 500 companies.

Janna is a freshman at Washington College, pursuing a major in biology. She one day want to be a Pediatricain with her own non-profit organization to help those without healthcare. This is her first year working for GIS and finds it to be a quite interesting job and loves working at GIS. It has brought her outside of her box and opened her eyes to a wider scope of computer technology.
