She is from Fork, Maryland and enjoys snowboarding and surfing in her free time. In the GIS lab she has worked on projects such as digitizing, mapping, and manipulating tree canopy data of local towns for the Urban Greening Initiative, working to implement the use of GIS to demonstrate an Idaho farm's certification for organic farming, and reviewing and editing lessons and lectures for the GIS classes on campus.

Walter Kropp has a B.A. in Geography from Wittenberg University and an M.A. in Geography at Ohio University. He is currently researching indicators of local sustainability and methods for incorporating those indicators into a spatial multi-criteria decision analysis model. While attending Ohio University, Walter has been a TA for Geography 101 and Remote Sensing labs. At the Washington College GIS lab, he has developed GIS course curriculum for the GPS, Remote Sensing, and 3D Analyst topics and also taught in the GIS Student and Teacher Camps.

Lisa is a junior majoring in anthropology and minoring in creative writing. This is her second year working in the GIS Lab and she also works in the Writing Center. She is from Fork, Maryland and enjoys snowboarding and surfing in her free time. In the GIS lab she has worked on projects such as digitizing, mapping, and manipulating tree canopy data of local towns for the Urban Greening Initiative, working to implement the use of GIS to demonstrate an Idaho farm's certification for organic farming, and reviewing and editing lessons and lectures for the GIS classes on campus.

Walter Kropp has a B.A. in Geography from Wittenberg University and is pursuing an M.A. in Geography at Ohio University. He is currently researching indicators of local sustainability and methods for incorporating those indicators into a spatial multi-criteria decision analysis model. While attending Ohio University, Walter has been a TA for Geography 101 and Remote Sensing labs. At the Washington College GIS lab, he has developed GIS course curriculum for the GPS, Remote Sensing, and 3D Analyst topics and also taught in the GIS Student and Teacher Camps.

Michael is earning his MS in Geography from Texas A&M University and has strong research interests in GIS and Geomorphology, specifically hurricane erosional forms and processes. At A&M, Michael has been a TA for Physical Geography and Geomorphology labs and has also participated in research projects in Costa Rica and on the Texas coast. In the Washington College GIS Lab, Michael has made maps for Kent County Tourism and Kent County Chamber of Commerce. Michael also taught in the GIS Summer Camp and has worked developing the Intro, Intermediate, and Advanced GIS course curricula.

She likes to be outdoors, enjoying fishing, boating, kayaking, biking, etc. As a GIS intern, she makes maps for Worton Water and Waste management. She currently holds the position of secretary in the Japanese Club.

Alketa Tanushi is a sophomore Business Management and Economics major and a Mathematics minor. At WC she is involved with the IRC and OIP (International Student Mentor), Spanish Club member, Portuguese Club member, LFC coordinator and SIFE. Matthew Barger is embarking on his first interest in Geospatial Technology with this summer internship. He is working on making 3D Models for the St. Michaels Visualization & Analysis Project which is helping a small town to visualize the effects of adding a 300 home housing development. He plans on taking this experience to his future college career.

Kevin Kitlinski is a new graduate from Dover Area High School, where he learned the trade of GIS from a course created by Washington College’s Stewart Bruce. After excelling, he was offered an internship here at Washington College. He is currently tackling the St. Michaels Visualization & Analysis Project.

Nathan King was a camp counselor this year. He is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania in 2008 with a Bachelors of Arts in Geography. Concentration in Emergency Management and GIS. Past member of CalU GIS Club, CalU Meteorology Club, CalU Billiards Club, URISA -Chapter 12 (a GIS chapter south of Pittsburgh)and IAEM (an emergency management chapter south of Pittsburgh). During his time at camp, he also assisted with collecting data on the Worton Water and Sewer Project during the GIS Camp.

Samantha is an Environmental Studies major and currently a junior at Washington College. She is the president of the Student Environmental Alliance and a student member of the Presidential Climate Action Committee as well as the Campus Recycling Coordinator. This is her first year interning in the GIS lab. She is working on mapping the tree canopy cover for the Chestertown Greening Initiative. She hopes to continue to expand this project and GPS the exact locations of all the trees and identify them by tree species. She would encourage everyone to take a GIS class because it is a useful skill for almost any field.

Marian is a senior Anthropology major, minoring in both Math and English. Her free time is divided between Lead GIS Intern, Head Circulation Desk Assistant at the Clifton M. Miller Library, President of ODK, Treasurer of Lambda Alpha and Anthropology Club, Vice President of CCM, member of SJF, the Printing Press Workshop, and her thesis. Her thesis uses GIS to show the affect of shoreline recession on archaeological sites in Dorchester County, MD. Marian's GIS internship project entails the creation of Intro to GIS curriculum for the Dover Area High School in Dover, PA. After graduation, Marian plans to get a masters degree in Public Folklore.

Laura is spending her time as a GIS intern creating maps of Kent County's Worton Park. She is working to provide the Parks and Recreation department with maps to enable visitors to easily locate sports fields and facilities. She will also provide maps of utilities, roads, walkways, and plants to allow smoother maintenance and everyday functioning of the park. Laura will then teach the Parks and Recreation department how to navigate and update the database she is creating and how to use the GIS software. Laura has previously interned with the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum and the Chesapeake Bay Environmental Center. She is an Environmental Studies major and is writing her Senior Capstone Experience on the Water Crisis in China. Laura is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha, the Student Environmental Alliance, Order of Omega, and works as a caterer and telecounselor on campus.
