The GIS Laboratory at Washington College uses Google SketchUp, a three dimensional modeling program developed by Google for use by engineers, architects, filmmakers, and developers, to create 3D models of buildings. Using building footprints, aerial imagery, and street level photography, the Washington College team builds each model to accurately represent the building. Once completed these models allows citizens visualize their current community, as well as to visualize future developments before they are constructed.
Washington College has rendered St. Michaels, Maryland in 3D and is in the process of modeling Chestertown, Maryland in 3D too. Click on the pictures above to view each project.
